The Story So Far
In 2007, the University Executive Committee (Jawatankuasa Eksekutif Universiti, JKE) approved the transformation of the Golden Lounge, located at the Old Chancellery Building, into the UiTM Art Gallery. This elevated the status of the gallery to University Art Gallery, which is now managed by the Faculty of Art & Design. The establishment is in accordance with the Universiti Teknologi MARA 1976 Act 1976 (Act 173) Power of board to make rules 35. (1) The board may make all such rules as may be necessary for the purpose of giving effect to the provisions of this Act. (2) In particular, and without prejudice to the generality of subsection (1), such rules may provide for all or any of the following matters, namely- (f)The management of libraries, laboratories, workshops and any other facilities provided by the Universiti, ii. Powers of the Universiti 4. (1) The Universiti shall, subject to the provision of this Act, have the following powers – (d) to erect, equip and maintain libraries, laboratories, lecture halls, hostels and all other buildings required for the purposes of the Universiti in Malaysia;
On May 24, 2007, the UiTM Art Gallery was unveiled by Her Majesty The Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Nur Zahirah, and it was renamed Galeri Seni Tuanku Nur Zahirah (GESTURZ).
Effective from December 1, 2018, the governance of GESTURZ underwent restructuring and further development, establishing it as a new PTj (Pusat Tanggungjawab) and Cost Centre under the auspices of the Deputy Vice Chancellor’s (Academic & International) office. This restructuring was approved by the University Executive Council, also known as the Mesyuarat Eksekutif Universiti (MEU), on October 31, 2018, under the reference MEU No. 27/2018.
The UiTM Executive Meeting (MEU) No. 05/2020, dated February 19, 2020, approved the application from the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic & International) to reposition UiTM GESTURZ under the governance of the Art & Design faculty, effective from March 1, 2020.
Effective from November 3, 2021, UiTM GESTURZ has been restructured as the University Art Gallery, ( A PTj - Pusat Tanggungjawab and Cost Centre) placed under the auspices of the Vice-Chancellor, following the approval of the UiTM Executive Meeting (MEU) No. 36/21. Subsequently, the Vice-Chancellor appointed the first Director and two Fellows of Curatorial Affairs and Curatorial Communication.
Under the theme of "Let's Make Creativity Your Superpower," UiTM GESTURZ has articulated its strategy encompassing six key SYNERGICON: people, process, technology, space, culture, and spirituality. It plays a pivotal role in introducing and integrating curated programmes into the broader creative landscape. This initiative ensures that Centro remains current and relevant, aiming to enhance overall performance, drive forward the sustainable creativity agenda, and align with UiTM's shared vision of becoming a Globally Renowned University by 2025.
The UiTM Galeri Seni Tuanku Nur Zahirah or its brand name GESTURZ is a university art gallery that drives an important agenda as Curation and Engagement Centro to support Sustainable Creativity in a multiple platform of events. The centro is specially curated for people and organisations.
